چکیده

Abstract Two new triterpenoid saponins, named giganteasaponin 5 and giganteasaponin 6, were isolated from the aboveground parts of Solidago gigantea and were defined to be 3-O-[ -D-Apio-D-furanosyl-(1 3)-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 3)-D-glucopyranosyl]-28-O { -L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 3)-D-xylopyranosyl-(1 4)[ -D-xylopyranosyl-(1 3)]-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 2) [ -L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 3)]-Dxylopyranosyl}-Bayogenin respectively 3-O[ -D-Apio-D-furanosyl-(1 3)-Dgluco-pyranosyl-(1 3)-D-glucopyranosyl]-28-O { -D-galactopyranosyl-(1 2)L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 3)-D-xylopyranosyl-(1 4)[ -D-xylopyranosyl-(1 3)]-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 2) [ -L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 3)]-D-xylopyranosyl}Bayogenin. The structures were established on the basis of chemical degradation, extensive MS studies and NMR investigations as well.

Gall Flies, Inquilines, and Goldenrods: A Model for Host-race Formation and Sympatric Speciation1

SYNOPSIS. Host shifts and subsequent host-race formation likely play a more common role in the speciation of herbivorous insects than has generally been recognized. Our studies of the interactions of goldenrod host plants (Solidago: Compositae), the gall fly Eurosta solidaginis (Diptera: Tephritidae), and the stemand gall-boring Mordellistena convicta (Coleoptera: Mordellidae) provide behaviora...

Solidago gigantea plants from nonnative ranges compensate more in response to damage than plants from the native range.

Resistance and tolerance are two ways that plants cope with herbivory. Tolerance, the ability of a plant to regrow or reproduce after being consumed, has been studied less than resistance, but this trait varies widely among species and has considerable potential to affect the ecology of plant species. One particular aspect of tolerance, compensatory responses, can evolve rapidly in plant specie...

Outbreak of Rust Caused by Coleosporium asterum on Solidago virgaurea var. gigantea in Ulleung-do

From June to October 2012, severe outbreaks of rust disease on Solidago virgaurea var. gigantea were observed in 5 different regions of Ulleung-do, Korea. Typical rust symptoms appeared as yellow spots, uredinia on leaves, and massive urediniospores covering the entire plant. Severely infected plants became discolored and died. On the basis of its morphological and molecular characteristics, th...

Invasion by Solidago species has limited impacts on soil seed bank communities

Increasing attention in invasion biology is being paid to measuring and understanding the impacts of invasive species. For plant invasions, however, the impact of invasion on soil seed bank communities has been under-studied. At six sites in southern Germany, we investigated whether areas invaded by Solidago gigantea and Solidago canadensis experienced a reduction in seed bank species richness,...

Immunobiological [correction of Immunobioloical] activity of a new benzyl benzoate from the aerial parts of Solidago virga-aurea var. gigantea.

The chromatographic separation of the hexane soluble fraction of the methanol extract of the aerial parts of Solidago virga-aurea var. gigantea M(IQ*) (Compositae) led to the isolation of a new benzylbenzoate (1) together with four known benzylbenzoates (2-5). Their structures were determined as 2-methoxybenzyl-2-hydroxybenzoate (1), benzyl-2-hydroxy-6-methoxybenzoate (2), 2-methoxybenzyl-2,6-d...
